BarnWood

BarnWood

Barnwood consists mostly of old growth Redwood and Cedarwood.  These woods were used extensively for building before pressure treated lumber became the norm.  Redwood and Cedarwood contain natural toxins that resist decay and rot.  It is very hard to find old growth heartwood anymore as these trees are no longer harvested.  We always get excited when we find these old wood pieces.

Once this wood type is cut into, the smell released is amazing!  This scent will last many months and in some cases years.  You can actually buy strips of cedar to hang in your closets to freshen up clothes with the natural scent as well as keeping moths away. We believe in natural selection when it comes to harvesting our wood. We let nature determine what wood we work with and when. You get a one of kind, never to be reproduced again hand made charger.

We harvest all our wood species from the California Sierra Nevada Gold Rush region from fallen trees, re-claimed, re-purposed, and standing dead trees. Every year storms come through the Sierra Nevada Mountains and blow over trees and break limbs. We give this wood a new life with purpose.

All of our Barnwood docks are coated with a combination of beeswax, carnauba wax, and orange oil. This enhances the natural beauty and depth of grain in finished woods and prevents further drying of the wood and deterioration of the finish.
